FAQ
- What is Magic Bookshelf?
- A reader for books with a spoiler-aware companion beside them.
- What is the Margin?
- The companion. It opens notes, people, places, and context only as far as you have read.
- Can I publish here?
- Not yet. For now the site is a library of public-domain books. I have not decided whether to add a way for authors to host their own stories with this technology.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Reading works without an account.
- Are the books free?
- Anything in the public domain is, and always will be, free to read here. I have not decided yet whether to add a version for authors to host their own stories with this technology, but the public-domain shelves stay free either way.
- Who runs Magic Bookshelf?
- It is made and maintained by one person, P. F. Witt. The classics being free to read is a wonderful thing, but the way they are usually presented is not as accessible or inviting as it could be. Magic Bookshelf is an attempt to close that gap: to make the public domain a pleasure to read, not just available.
- Can you add a book I love?
- Maybe. Suggestions are always welcome. Use the Suggest a book page (linked in the footer) to send a title, and I will see whether it fits the shelves.
