Also known as Katerina Ivanovna.

Marmeladov's wife, an officer's daughter reduced to poverty, illness, and a room full of hungry children. She is proud, educated, and fierce, clinging to rank and cleanliness while circumstances make both nearly impossible. Marmeladov's confession shows her injustice and her desperation together.

Part II, Chapter VI

At Marmeladov's deathbed she fights for order, a priest, and dignity while poverty and grief crowd the room.

Part III, Chapter IV

Widowed and consumptive, she is left with the children and nothing to keep them, clinging to her ruined gentility as the want closes in.

Part V, Chapter II

At the memorial dinner her pride and humiliation break into open quarrels with Amalia Lippevechsel and the guests.

Part V, Chapter V

Driven out and half-delirious, she takes the children into the street to sing and dance, then collapses and dies in Sonia's room.
