The cross Sonia offers Raskolnikov after his confession. It is connected with Lizaveta, which makes it an object of memory as well as faith. Sonia uses it to name the suffering she believes he must accept.

Epilogue
The cross belongs to the same slow movement of faith that the epilogue leaves only beginning.
