Journeys to and from town order much of the neighbourhood's news, and a connection with its less fashionable, commercial quarters is a thing the genteel are quick to look down on.

Elizabeth's aunt and uncle Gardiner live near the City in Gracechurch Street, within sight of his warehouses; their good sense and kindness give the lie to the contempt their address invites.
