The capital, some fifty miles south of Longbourn, where fashionable families keep a house for the season and men of business keep their warehouses and counting-houses. Journeys to and from town order much of the neighbourhood's news, and a connection with its less fashionable, commercial quarters is a thing the genteel are quick to look down on.

Chapter XXV

Elizabeth's aunt and uncle Gardiner live near the City in Gracechurch Street, within sight of his warehouses; their good sense and kindness give the lie to the contempt their address invites.
