Dmitri Prokofitch Razumihin
Also known as Razumihin, Dmitri Prokofitch, Vrazumihin.
An old university acquaintance whom Raskolnikov thinks of when he is desperate for work or help. Razumihin is poor too, but he has energy, sociability, and a practical generosity that Raskolnikov lacks. His name first appears as a possible refuge Raskolnikov cannot quite bring himself to use.
Part I, Chapter VI
Raskolnikov reaches Razumihin's room after the murders but almost immediately flees, unable to accept ordinary help.
Part II, Chapter II
Razumihin takes charge during Raskolnikov's illness, bringing food, clothes, a doctor, and loud protective affection.
Part III, Chapter I
He meets Dounia and Pulcheria Alexandrovna, becoming their practical guardian in Petersburg.
Part IV, Chapter II
Part V, Chapter V
Baffled and wounded by his friend's coldness, he takes the care of Pulcheria Alexandrovna and Dounia on himself as a sacred charge.
Epilogue
He marries Dounia and plans a future that includes work, patience, and eventual nearness to Raskolnikov in Siberia.
