Person
Nastasya
The cook and servant in Raskolnikov's lodging house, one of the ordinary people who keep entering his sealed room with food, gossip, and practical attention. She laughs easily, notices more than she says, and belongs to the domestic world Raskolnikov keeps trying to shut out. Her presence makes his isolation less complete than he imagines.
Part II, Chapter I
During Raskolnikov's illness after the murders, Nastasya becomes one of the watchers whose ordinary care also feels like surveillance.
Part II, Chapter II
With Razumihin taking charge, she helps sustain the sickroom rhythm of soup, tea, errands, and news.
Part II, Chapter VI
She brings him his tea with the district's gossip, including the talk of the murders that he can scarcely bear to hear.
Part III, Chapter IV
Half nurse and half scold, she keeps the wretched household going and marvels at the gentlefolk now crowding her lodger's garret.
