Lady Catherine de Bourgh

Also known as Lady Catherine.

Mr. Collins's great patroness, a wealthy, imperious noblewoman of Rosings in Kent, and aunt to Mr. Darcy. She expects deference as her due and gives her opinion freely on every subject, asked or not.

Chapter XIV

Her name is forever on Mr. Collins's lips; by his account her condescension and her advice alike know no bounds.

Chapter XXIX

At a Rosings dinner she questions Elizabeth on every private matter and lays down the law on all, expecting deference as her due.

Chapter XXXI

She presides over the evening with loud opinions on music and on how Elizabeth ought to practise, sparing no one her correction.

Chapter XXXVII

She is full of schemes for the comfort of others whether they will or no, and has long intended her nephew Darcy for her own daughter Anne.

Chapter LVI

She descends on Longbourn to forbid Elizabeth from marrying her nephew, and meets a refusal to be commanded that does more to bring the match about than to prevent it.
