The nearest town off the moor, named by Dr. Mortimer as the home of Laura Lyons, the one woman of the district whose initials are L. L. She keeps a typewriting business there, set up by the charity of Sir Charles and one or two other kind hearts.

Chapter XI. The Man on the Tor

Watson drives in to question Laura Lyons about her letter to Sir Charles, and it is thought that the moor stranger's boy comes here to fetch his supplies.

Chapter XIII. Fixing the Nets

Feigning a sudden departure for London, Holmes and Watson drive here instead, to confront Mrs. Lyons with the truth and to meet Lestrade's evening train from town.

Chapter XIV. The Hound of the Baskervilles

The party drives out from here by hired wagonette on the final night and sends it back before advancing on foot toward Merripit House.

Chapter XV. A Retrospection

It emerges that Holmes had lodged here for most of his hidden weeks on the moor, using the lonely stone hut only when he needed to be near the scene of action.
