Inspector Lestrade
Also known as Lestrade.
A Scotland Yard inspector, reckoned by Holmes the best of the professionals, who answers a summons by wiring that he is coming down with an unsigned warrant to assist. He springs from the London express at Coombe Tracey, and the reverence with which he now regards Holmes shows how far his old scorn for the reasoner's theories has been schooled by experience.
Chapter XIV. The Hound of the Baskervilles
He lies hidden with Holmes and Watson in the ambush by Merripit House and is flung face down with a yell of terror as the flaming hound bursts from the fog. Once the beast is shot, he rallies to force brandy between the senseless Sir Henry's teeth and is then left in possession of the house.
