The Margin

Person

Rodger Baskerville

Also known as Rodger.

The youngest and black-sheep of the three Baskerville brothers, of whom Sir Charles was the eldest. Said to have been the very image of the family portrait of old Hugo and to share the old masterful Baskerville strain, he made England too hot to hold him, fled to Central America, and was reported to have died there of yellow fever in 1876.

Chapter V. Three Broken Threads

He is spoken of as Sir Charles's younger brother who died unmarried, so that, failing Sir Henry, the estate would pass to distant cousins, the Desmonds.

Chapter XV. A Retrospection

The truth comes out: he did not die unmarried but married abroad and fathered a son, the man the world came to know as Stapleton.
